Once again, President Biden has shown his lack of support for our allies, this time threatening to withhold military aid to Israel. In a recent interview, he made it clear that if Israel’s military invades Rafah – a city in southern Gaza where Palestinians have fled due to northern conflicts – he will not supply the weapons that have been historically used in such situations.
“If they go into Rafah — they haven’t gone into Rafah yet — if they go into Rafah, I’m not gonna be supplying the weapons that have been used historically to deal with Rafah, to deal with the cities,” Biden told CNN’s Erin Burnett.

Despite his threats, Biden claims he still supports Israel’s security through the Iron Dome and their ability to respond to attacks. Yet, his words contradict his actions as he refuses to provide necessary artillery shells and weapons.

Israel has been conducting ground operations in northern Gaza following the October 7 attacks. The majority of the population in Gaza Strip has fled to Rafah due to these conflicts. Israel, in its commitment to “eradicate” Hamas, has hinted at a possible ground operation in Rafah. Critics argue that such an operation would constitute genocide due to the inflated refugee population.
Israel maintains that operations in Rafah are crucial for degrading Hamas’ military capability.

Biden has previously warned that an Israeli offensive on Rafah would cross a “red line” for his administration. In line with this stance, his administration halted a shipment of U.S.-made ammunition to Israel last week, according to Axios. This marked the first time since the October 7 attacks that the U.S. government obstructed a weapons shipment intended for the Israeli military.
The Secretary of State Anthony Blinken stated that Israel has not yet crossed Biden’s so-called “red line,” despite engaging in limited operations near the border crossing between Egypt and Gaza last week.
