Zelensky Blames West for His Failures – Claims We ‘Waited Too Long’ to Send Weapons

According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, their counteroffensive isn’t working because they were waiting “too long” on western countries to send him weapons and aid.

“We waited too long”, he replied  when asked to reflect on the progress of the spring counteroffensive against the Russian occupation as we now near the end of summer.

On Sunday, Zelensky told CNN’s’ Fareed Zakaria that there is no “happy ending” for Ukraine, declaring that it is not a Hollywood movie that will end quickly. The president added that it is in the best interest of the West to help fight back against Russia to dissuade them from invading anywhere else.

I supposed the BILLIONS in aid and weapons already provided isn’t enough, huh? Zelensky is one greedy son of a gun.

While the Ukrainian president noted that he is “thankful” for his Western partners for sending aid, his words hold no water considering he continued to hold his hand out with demands.

“We — look, we waited too long. It’s true. No, I’m thankful to partners, to the United States, EU, other partners,” Zelensky said. “I’m thankful very much to President Biden and to Congress, but we have to understand: We waited too long, they put mines. Then when we been ready from the point of view of our partners because the decision to give us, for example, Bradley [Fighting Vehicles] and other kind of weapons, the decision, it doesn’t mean the result.”

He added that there are weapons are still on the way, and that “a lot of people say [the Counteroffensive is] too slow, but [new weapons are] still on the way.”

These latest remarks by Zelensky have not been the first time he has blamed Western expectations of the speed of progress on a diet of war films. Back in June, when he admitted for the first time that the counteroffensive was going “slower than desired”, the President said: “Some people believe this is a Hollywood movie and expect results now. It’s not”.

Discussions of the speed of the counteroffensive often come in tandem with demands for more weapons. This was the case last week when Zelensky acknowledged Russia’s air superiority had given them the power to “stop our counteroffensive”, leading him to demand “powerful and long-range weapons” to close the gap.

Zelensky declared, “We are not in the sky and Russia is, they stop us from the sky. They stop our counteroffensive… The war is complicated, some processes are complicated, and many things have been slowed down. When some allies say: ‘What about the counter-offensive? When will the next step be?’. My answer is that today, our steps are coming faster than [the West’s] new sanctions packages.”
