Former President Donald Trump held his first rally since his fourth indictment on Friday, during which he got extremely emotional and nearly broke down in tears.
“They’re just destroying our country,” Trump told a large crowd of nearly 7,000 people at a hockey arena in Rapid City, South Dakota. “And if we don’t take it back — if we don’t take it back in ’24, I really believe we’re not going to have a country left.”
“I’m being indicted for you,” the front-runner in the G.O.P. presidential primary race told his enthusiastic audience. “That’s not part of the job description,” he added, “but I’m being indicted for you.”
The former president began to get emotional on stage while describing the downfall of America under Biden. Trump said that he “helped build America into the greatest nation in the world,” and then stopped to seeming choke back tears as the crowd cheered him on.
At a loss for words, the 45th president simply nodded as he realized that everyone felt the same way as him.
