Today, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is prepared to bring the document that was subpoenaed to Capitol Hill for lawmakers to review. The document is an FD-1023 form that allegedly describes a $5 million criminal scheme involving then-Vice President Joe Biden and a foreign national involving money for policy decisions.
The FBI will bring the document to Capitol Hill on Monday for House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., and the top Democrat on the committee, Ranking Member Jamie Raskin, D-Md., to review in a secure SCIF. The FBI has made this accommodation after Comer set a May 30 deadline for FBI Director Christopher Wray to turn over the document to the House Oversight Committee.
However, Comer, despite this accommodation from the FBI, has said he will begin contempt of Congress proceedings. It is still unclear if the FBI bringing the document to Capitol Hill for a viewing will satisfy the subpoena.
The document is being sought after a whistleblower brought information to Comer and Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa. According to Grassley, the public’s business ought to be public, and it is not for him to make a judgment about the accuracy of the accusations in the document.
The White House has maintained that President Biden has never spoken to his son, Hunter Biden, about his business dealings and that he was never involved in them. They also maintain that the president has never discussed investigations into family members with the Justice Department.
It remains to be seen what will happen with the document, but the White House maintains that President Biden is not involved in any criminal activities. It remains up to lawmakers to review the document and make the truth known to the public.
