On Monday, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg appeared on Fox Business Network’s “Varney & Co.,” and expressed doubt that “Americans in 2050 are still going to be driving that old technology, that combustion technology that we inherited from the 20th century.”
Buttigieg said, “[T]he share of EVs has been dramatically increasing every single year, and that’s continuing. Now, our goal is, by the end of this decade, to be about half-and-half. We think that that can and will happen. But what isn’t guaranteed is, first of all, is that EV revolution going to continue to be made in America? During the Trump administration, China really built a major advantage on EVs. But as somebody who comes from the industrial Midwest, sees how the auto industry creates so much by way of livelihoods where I come from and really around the country, I’m much more excited about the jobs being created on U.S. soil, and that doesn’t just happen. We’ve got to make sure that the U.S. leads the way as this technology changes. I don’t know a lot of people who think that Americans in 2050 are still going to be driving that old technology, that combustion technology that we inherited from the 20th century.”
Host David Asman chimed in, “Americans like it.”
Buttigieg replied, “Well, no, you’re not going to meet a lot of people who ever go back after they’ve got electric, and I think that really tells you something. That shows you that the lower maintenance, the fact that it costs less to maintain, the fact that they break down [with] less frequency, and the cost savings that you get by not having to buy gas or diesel are I think why you almost never meet somebody who has an EV who says, I want to back to the old technology.”
Little Petey can lie with the best of the Democrats. EVs are far less reliable that gas-powered cars; they do break down more often. Plus gas-powered cars do not have radical battery failures that completely burn up your car, their tires last far longer, and gas-powered cars do not have batteries that go out of production leaving one with a car with no power at all. And how is the US going to power all these electric hogs? Build more coal-fired power plants? EVs is one more pie-in-the-sky concept, like socialism, that sounds good and destroys those who buy off on it.
If the electric grid is not maintained and updated to backup your statement, EV’s will not get charged.
We do not have the grid power to handle the load of all those EV’s. The cost is not only the price of the vehicle, there are other costs associated with charging one at home. It is my understanding that it takes a 220 vac circuit to charge one at home. That circuit is not cheap to install and must be accomplished by a Certified and licensed electrician.
Solar and wind power is not adequate enough to supply every home owner the privilege of charging their EV.
Wind turbines wreck havoc with the bird population, and the whale and sea life. It is my understanding that the turbine blades cannot be recycled and burying them is not the correct choice either. Solar panels need to be replaced and disposed of.
France has operated a nuclear electrical power system for over 45 years with no accidents and that power supplies 85% of France’s power.
It is past time for America to build nuclear power plants and forget wind turbine and solar.
everyone i know who went electric hates it or sold it. Those buying into are probably the people still wearing masks. What happened to his salary of $1?
Every person I have known that owned an EV (and theer are very, very few) said they are crappy machines and got rid of them as fast as possible. Only an idiot would pay a fortune for a machine run by a technology that has not been proven workable.
How true! I would never buy an EV so I have no intention of EVER GOING BACK! (I miss the Hot Rodding I could enjoy growing- up back in the 50’s/80’s too, so **** them **** EV’s!
Way more expensive to buy, higher maintenance costs (actual costs statistically), batteries eventually need replacing (which is the most expensive part so you essentially have to buy a new vehicle), tires don’t last as long because of the weight, our power grid doesn’t begin to have enough capacity, catch fire that cannot be extinguished, not “green” as that much additional wind and solar in impossible in the time frame so the power comes from (you guessed it) petroleum products, and not “green” as the rare metals required are dangerous to the environment. But above all, takes way too long to refuel and has a very limited range between charges. So they are only useful for daily commutes and local shopping. Like most things proposed by the left, they limit individual freedom. In this case, freedom of movement.
dream on petey fruit-cake.
Just STFU, and go clean your fruitloop boytoy off your face, you are nothing but a ‘tool’ of obama the weirdo, go hide your shame in your closet, and stop dreaming about becoming a REAL AMERICAN anytime soon !!!!!
Mayor Pete Buttplug can go f**k himself. This country will not be able to power all electric vehicles. What happens when the EMP hits. They’re all toast. AT least some of the earlier gassers will run. My old 5,9 diesel will run because it’s mechanical not electric. Jobama is a fool for demanding this so is Gavin Nuisance.
Buttigieg is the most unqualified cabinet member of the 12 unqualified Cabinet Members.
Biden can’t pick his nose, never mind a qualified member of his Administration!
anybody that believes this crap, has got to get their head out of BUTTingieg. Maybe then they will wipe the Crap off of their eyes and see the Truth.
Buttplug is as ignorant on gas engines, as the walking dildo Joe Biden is.
Homosexuality is a mental disorder. You can’t expect a queer to think or act rationally.
**** you Bootyjuice! We will drive them till the End of time! and you shall rot in Hell
Someone needs to tell Mayor Buttplug that Ford just cut in half the factory to make EV’s. Or the truck that was supposed to get 400 miles to a charge, and pulled out of Las Vegas and made it 15 miles before they turned around and barely made it back before the battery died. Why doesnt mayor Buttplug contact the guy in Napoleon Ohio who made a neat little add on for an engine and took a 1969 Mustang (not a gas sipper) with his device on it and drove to Las Vegas and back on 11 GALLONS OF GAS and has it documented and validated. http://www.hp2g.com/pressrelease/articles.html and is working on making them kits for semis and trucks and so on. Imagine a Semi truck that gets 45mpg? Or a motorbike that gets 270MPG So why isnt he getting this guy some help?
This Big EV Push will fade away just like Jimmy Carters pushing the US to go to the metric system . How did that work out ?
At least Carter wasn’t trying to destroy the Country like Biden is.
